Wood products (including plywood) have a number of environmental advantages over alternative building materials. Some advantages include:
- Wood is a completely renewable resource.
- Wood products require relatively little energy to manufacture compared to other building materials.
- Trees absorb and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere - carbon remains stored even when the tree is ultimately used in buildings or furniture.
- Timber mills generate very low pollutant emissions compared to other building materials (refer the National Pollutant Inventory).
- Wood is easily recyclable.
